If you didn’t already love Julian Dennison from Taika Waititi’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople, you will now.
In a cute video posted by MTV International, Dennison explains the meanings of typical Kiwi slang phrases and gives examples of how to use the words.
Dennison says the word “skux” – used throughout Wilderpeople - means “gangster, cool, spunky… it just means you’re an awesome person”.
He gives the example in a sentence: “Mum you look very skux today.”
“Chur” means “yip or yes” and he says the correct way to use it is as a reply to a statement like, “’That’s an awesome shirt you have on’ … and then you say ‘chur.’”
He also says: “Taika explained the word ‘chur’ once and he said it came from the word ‘chair.’”
