When it comes to our favourite hot drinks, it's often debated which is really best for your health- and now we're getting the answers.

So it turns that whether you're a coffee lover or a tea fan, you're not wrong in believing your option is better.

Why? They're just better for different reasons.

One study by Dr Marc Gunter of Imperial College in London found that the people who drank the most coffee had a reduced risk of premature death.

On the flip, scientists in Washington found that a compound found in black tea could help gut bacteria fight infections and prevent severe influenza.

Best for a longer life? Both.

While it's been found that coffee can reduce the risk of premature death, a study also found that women who had two or more cups of tea per day will also live longer!

Best for anti-oxidants? Coffee.

Both coffee and tea contain lots of antioxidants called polyphenols, nutrients that can help to reduce inflammation and repair cellular damage. But what's great is that coffee contains two and a half times more polyphenols than tea on average!

Weight-loss? Tea (Green of course).

While a black coffee has often been suggested when trying to lose weight, tea could actually be the solution. Apparently, green tea may support weight loss in several ways: increasing calorie-burning, increasing fat burning for energy, reducing fat absorption and even reducing appetite.
