So yesterday was 20th April - or 20/4 - but as we know Americans love flipping the date so it was 4/20. 420. So it was assumed that a chunk of the world celebrated by smoking weed.
One of those celebrating was Snapchat, who created a Bob Marley filter, in honour of one of the world's most famous stoners.

But what was assumedly meant to be a fun tribute soon turned into a debate.
A lot of people thought it was quite disrespectful and actually a little racist.
That said, SnapChat did use Marley’s face and name in partnership with the legendary singer-songwriter’s estate. A Snapchat spokesperson told Forbes via email that the filter “gives people a new way to share their appreciation for Bob Marley and his music. Millions of Snapchatters have enjoyed Bob Marley’s music, and we respect his life and achievements”.
People didn't care and they weren't happy.
It's sad that Bob Marley worked so hard towards equality, love and peace, but our generation just remembers him as a smoking icon.

Reducing Bob Marley to a Cannabis smoking hippy is disrespectful to music, disrespectful to history and disrespectful to Jamaica.

It's incredibly disrespectful that Bob Marley's image and message has been reduced to just smoking weed. The man was a visionary.

There's something more than a little racist about @Snapchat putting up a blackface Bob Marley filter for 4/20, right?

I get that @Snapchat probably want to capitalise on 4/20 without DIRECTLY referencing it; but their answer is a blackface Bob Marley filter?
