A lot people would take a good Netflix Binge sesh over the gym, but who'd have thought skipping a bit of exercise could be worse than smoking?

A new study from the journal JAMA Network Open discovered that a sedentary lifestyle is more damaging to your health than smoking, diabetes or heart disease.

“Being unfit on a treadmill or in an exercise stress test has a worse prognosis, as far as death, than being hypertensive, being diabetic or being a current smoker," said the senior author of the study and cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic, Dr Wael Jaber. "We've never seen something as pronounced as this and as objective as this."

The study also confirmed that any exercise is better than nothing at all (which we could have figured out ourselves), but those who only exercise a small amount still see a huge benefit to their health.

So the lesson of the study is even a little goes a long way.
