We can really our own toughest critic.

Gracie Abrams joined Jake Shane on his Therapuss podcast, where she opened up about the complicated relationship she has with her own music during the writing process, per People.

One such example is how she initially didn't like one of the tracks from her new album Daughter from Hell, which dropped last month.

When looking back at the song "Look at My Life," Abrams admitted that she "really didn't like that song until recently" because of how she was "not feeling good" when she wrote it. However, according to the singer-songwriter, this was not a one-off occasion.

"I have recency bias, I think, with writing," she said. "Sometimes after writing something, I have to put it away for a while and not acknowledge that it exists."

After months of keeping the song locked away, she was encouraged by producer and collaborator Aaron Dessner to "revisit it" because he thought the track was "really great."

"It took like six months until I could hear it again and not want to rip my eyeballs out," she said, adding that she is happy she was able to give it another chance without being transported back to the mindset she was in when she wrote it. "I'm very glad that it resurfaced."
