Employees are opting for implanted microchips instead of swipe cards

Like something straight out of a dystopian sci-fi movie, employees at the Swedish startup hub Epicenter are opting to be implanted with a tiny rice grain sized microchip, that acts as a swipe card you'll never forget. With just the wave of a hand, people will be able to open doors, access printers, or buy food and drink. Yeah...like a cyborg.
The microchip is inserted between the thumb and index finger through a syringe, and then you're good to go! It's literally that simple. The co-founder at Epicenter stated that the "biggest benefit [he] think[s] is convenience. It basically replaces a lot of things you have, other communication devices, whether it be credit cards or keys.''
It's not all convenience however, the data gathered from the chips have the ability to record what time an employee arrives to work or what they buy, which may be a concern for personal privacy. The co-founder said "the data that you could possibly get from a chip that is embedded in your body is a lot different from the data that you can get from a smartphone.''
One user of the chip, Fredric Kaijser said privacy is not an issue to him, "for me it's just a matter of I like to try new things and just see it as more of an enabler and what that would bring into the future.''
