The absolute undisputed champion of the vegetable world is undoubtedly the potato. Beloved by all, most even forget it's a vegetable.

We don't have to list foods to show how great the potato is...........but we will anyway.

Fish and Chips

Potato Chips

Potato Bake

Mashed Potatoes

Baked Potato

Raw Potato

k maybe the last one went a bit too far, but there's bad news..

According to the NY Times, a US study found that eating potatoes more than four times a week can increase your risk of high blood pressure.

We know....it hurts.

The study included over 185,000 men and women, all of whom were followed for 25 years and would be checked up by doctors every two years. All subjects were controlled for factors such as exercise, smoking, and other various bits and pieces.

Those who ate potatoes four to six times a week increased their risk of hypertension by 11% compared to those who are potatoes once a month. Chip lovers have it even worse, as those who ate four servings of fries a week actually increased the risk by 17%.

There is good news at least!

According to Dr Rebecca Reynolds, a lecturer from the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at UNSW:

"It is more important to look at the whole diet of a person rather than demonise the potato."

"I do not think it is a good idea to tell people to avoid healthier ways of cooking potatoes ... The benefits outweigh the negatives. They provide great nutrients and fibre.

So there you have it. Let's be honest it's gonna be pretty hard to stop us eating the best vegetable of all time!
