The Summer Thieves boys are coming in hot in 2023 with new banger ‘Funny How The Mind Works’!

Another taster of their upcoming new album is here and as per, we've chucked it straight onto ZM's playlist. The third single 'Funny How The Mind Works' follows other singles, ‘Tongue & Cheek’ and ‘Pieces’.

About the song, Jake said on Instagram, “I remember we were re-tracking some guitars for another song on the album and I popped out the room picked up an acoustic and the song just came instantly. We went for a 90s hip hop vibe. Dylan cut samples and we smashed it out that day."

Its funky groove and catchy, sing-a-long vocal hook shows the lighter side of the album, bringing a sound that is inspired by 90’s California surfer bands, put through a NZ filter.

The single arrives alongside the official video, directed by Taylor Mansfield. The video is inspired by classic videos like Beastie Boys’ ‘Intergalactic’, embracing a tongue-in-cheek playful vibe.

‘Funny How The Mind Works’ arrives just as the band wrap up a busy summer of touring at home, including marquee performances at festivals Rhythm & Vines and Electric Avenue. April will see the band head to Australia, playing a series of shows alongside L.A.B, showcasing tracks from the upcoming album.

Set for release later in 2023, the new Summer Thieves album weaves seamlessly through pop, rock, reggae and funk while staying true to the band’s sound that has won fans over across their massive summer shows in Aotearoa and Australia.
