Kiwi R&B artist Jordan Gavet makes her debut on Locals Only with 2000s-inspired single 'He Said'!
After lots of anticipation, one of NZ’s brightest R&B voices Jordan Gavet has listened to the fans and finally released 'He Said'. The track was first released as a Soundcloud demo in 2008 and since then has kicked off mass hysteria for her to officially drop it. In 2022, she finally caved.
Produced by her father and brother and brought together with Grammy-nominated producer Willstah (Ariana Grande, DJ Mustard), the song is a true family affair and still slaps.
“My cousin was making beats and had the idea of the first 3 guitar notes. I just started singing along while I was doing my hair in the same room and that’s how it was born. When my Dad had heard, he came in and worked on it late into the night.
It became this family project we all kept chipping away on over a few months. When I would write something new, like the bridge, my Dad would change the music to suit!” explains Gavet.
Born in Sydney, Australia and raised in Avondale, West Auckland, with Samoan ancestral roots, Jordan grew up in a close-knit musical family, surrounded by the classics of soul, R&B and gospel from a young age.
Alongside opening for R&B heavyweights 112 and Bobby Valentino, Jordan gained notoriety on Soundcloud and YouTube, grabbing the attention of ride-or-die fans and fellow NZ artists such as Aaradhna.
Jordan’s debut single ‘Hesitation’ arrived in 2019, followed up with two more singles ‘Away’ and ‘Do Better’. She also hit the road with Stan Walker on a nationwide 9-date NZ tour joined by Niko Walters and Lepani.
At the beginning of 2021, Jordan released her debut EP Smoke, later that year winning Best Pacific Soul/R&B Artist at the Pacific Music Awards.
